Peruvian authorities announced late Monday evening that Joran van der Sloot had confessed to the murder of Stephany Flores.

The dutch man, 22, has admitting beating Stephany Flores to death in a hotel room in Lima, Peru, on May 30 just hours after meeting him for the first time.

According to leaked police reports, van der Sloot lost his temper when Miss Flores, 21, who he had met during a poker game, used his computer to discover more about him after returning with him to his hotel room.

“I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life. She had no right. I went to her and I hit her. She was scared. We argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and I hit her,” Mr van der Sloot told police.

The battered body of Peruvian Miss Flores was found with her neck broken on the floor of his hotel room two days later. Police believe she was killed by blows with a blunt object, probably a tennis racket found by her body. Video footage showing van der Sloot entering his hotel room with Miss Flores has been released by police.

It is expected that he will be formally charged with the crime sometime today and will likely be held in one of Peru’s three maximum security prisons. These three prisons are, the Miguel Castro Castro, Piedras Gordas and the Lurigancho. Some felt van der Sloot would be held at the Miguel Castro Castro prison but a former Chief of Police ventured that he would not, would be sent to the Piedras Gordas because there was insufficient facilities to protect him at the former prison which was the subject of a large lawsuit in 2006. Charges were filed against it for violation of prisoners rights.

Several items have been released which were previously in error or withheld. Police now report that the body of Flores was not fully clothed but rather had on a black tee shirt and red panties.

They also report that surveillance cameras showed that van der Sloot spoke to a hotel employee as he left. When the employee was questioned, he said that van der Sloot has told him he would be coming back and asked him not “to bother his girl”.

A Peruvian police investigator, Carlos Neyra reports that the Dutch Consulate has offered to furnish Joran an attorney, however, other reports have stated that he does not want a Dutch attorney. He has asked for his mother and nothing has been reported as whether or not she will be coming to see him. He has indicated that he would prefer his New York attorney who represented him during the Natalee Holloway case.

A man shot and killed an Old Navy employee and turned his gun on himself inside the clothing store’s Loop location this morning, an apparent murder-suicide that left customers and employees scrambling into traffic on State Street, sources said.

“He just came in and got her, shot her,” a shocked employee standing outside the store on State Street said.

“Oh my god, I just talked to her this morning. I just talked to her,” another employee wailed.

The shooting is being investigated as a domestic-related murder-suicide. Early reports suggested that the dead man and women were dating.

Chicago Police Chief of Patrol Eugene Williams said the victims knew each other and “right now we’re looking into the possibility of some relationship between” the dead.

The shots were fired just before 11 a.m. at the store at 35 N. State Street. Williams said investigators found the dead in the basement, a restricted employee-only area.

“Once in that area, we found two people laying in that area, deceased,” Williams said.

At 11 a.m., a patrol car drove past the store when police noticed employees of the store streaming out of the building and flagging down police saying there had been a shooting inside.

When police walked in they found the man and woman, both in their 20s, dead in the basement. According to Williams, they believe the man walked in with a gun.

Northbound lanes of State Street were closed to traffic as police investigated the shooting. The victims have not been identified.

The Old Navy location is in Chicago’s popular Loop shopping district. The man is said to have shot the woman several times in an employee-only area of the store’s basement before shooting himself. No one else was hurt, but the incident sent panicked customers and employees running from the store.

On Monday Yeardley Love, 22, of Cockeysville, Md., a lacrosse player and senior, was found dead inside her off-campus apartment. Friends and family grieved the death of an all-star college lacrosse player expressed shock over her alleged murder by another athlete inside her apartment at the University of Virginia. The death of the all-star college lacrosse player, Yeardley Love was described as an unspeakable loss. The UVA University of Virginia lacrosse family expresses their sadness and mourns the death and loss of the al-star player Yeardley Love.

The University of Virginia men’s lacrosse player George Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, Md., was charged with first-degree murder for the young woman’s death. around 2:15 a.m. Love’s roommate called police to report that Love may have had an alcohol overdose. But in the Police’s arrival Love had visual injuries to her body and it was determined she had already passed away. Love was face-down when authorities arrived and that police were able to see obvious signs of physical injury to her body.

According to police chief Tim Longo, Love was found in bed by a roommate at the apartment she shared with two female friends about three blocks from the UVA campus. Once police found Love, “the obvious physical trauma to her” led them to start a murder investigation, Longo said. Later, Huguely was questioned at his apartment and arrested at about 6 a.m.

In a statement, police said that Love and Huguely had a past relationship but have not released further details about the crime.

According to Longo, Huguely is scheduled to appear via video conference Tuesday morning for a bond hearing in Charlottesville.

Georgetown senior Molly Ford, who played high school lacrosse with Love at Notre Dame Prep, was stunned by the news of her friend’s death. “It was so shocking,” Ford told the Daily News. “I felt like I had talked to her less than a week ago and the fact that I’m never going to get to see her again is really, really hard.”

Although the death is being called a homicide, the exact details of the fatality won’t be made public until an autopsy is complete, said Steve Murman, the regional administrator of the medical examiner’s office in Richmond. According to Murman, Love’s body was delivered to the central district office in Richmond on Monday afternoon. The autopsy will be performed at the medical examiner’s office on Tuesday morning by one of the three forensic pathologists on staff. The results could be made public by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, he said. But if drugs and alcohol are in Love’s system, the results could take longer to emerge.

An Ohio doctor accused of lacing his wife’s calcium supplement with cyanide so he could be with his mistress was convicted Friday of aggravated murder.

Jurors deliberated about 18 hours over three days before reaching a verdict in the case of Yazeed Essa, who was accused in the cyanide death of his wife, Rosemarie.

The courtroom in Cleveland, Ohio, was packed with Rosemarie Essa’s family members, many who broke into tears when the verdict was announced shortly after 1 p.m. ET.

Essa was an emergency room doctor in Akron but fled to Lebanon after his wife’s death. Last year, he gave up an extradition fight and was returned from Cyprus to Ohio. With Friday’s verdict, he now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

During deliberations, jurors asked Judge Deena Calabrese if they could break open a calcium capsule to determine whether that required any special skill or knowledge–a request the judge granted.

The trial included testimony from more than 60 witnesses who told the story of a philandering doctor, his many mistresses and an international manhunt that crossed three continents and ended with his arrest in Cyprus in October 2006, some 18 months after his wife’s death.

Defense attorneys pointed to a lack of physical evidence linking Essa to the tainted supplements and urged jurors not to convict him for his playboy lifestyle.

Two of Essa’s mistresses testified, one saying she never loved Essa and another saying she believed him when he promised to be her soul mate.

Rosemarie Essa’s friends said the 38-year-old mother of two and former nurse believed she was in a happy marriage. She was driving to the movies in the family Volvo when she felt ill, passed out and hit another vehicle before rolling to a stop against a curb.

She died at a hospital. An autopsy revealed more than four times the lethal amount of cyanide in her system. Nine cyanide-laced capsules were found in her calcium supplements.

Before she crashed, Rosemarie Essa called a friend from her car, prosecutor Anna Faraglia told jurors in her closing argument. Essa told the friend, Eva McGregor, that she was beginning to feel sick to her stomach and wondered if a supplement her husband had given her was making her ill.

McGregor testified for the prosecution. So did the two mistresses: Marguerita Montanez said that they often trysted at a local Motel 6 but that the relationship was just about sex, and Michelle Madeline said that she fell hard for Essa and that he appeared to be in love with her.

Essa’s defense suggested that other women were responsible for his wife’s death, but Essa did not not take the witness stand during the trial.

Another prosecutor, Steven Dever, played a video clip for the jury of Madeline testifying about how Essa said she’d fit into his family.

“He had spoken to me, and he had said, ‘You will be the only mommy that they remember.’ He said ‘Rosie’s parents will come to love you as a daughter.’ ”

Madeline also testified that she and Essa remained intimate after his wife’s death, even while she took care of his children.

Dever said the testimony clearly showed Essa’s motive.

Thousands of mourners walked the sidewalks of a wide avenue in silence, holding candles and tearfully embracing.

Many were at a loss for words over the discovery of a body believed to be that of 17-year-old Chelsea King, five days after the popular, straight-A student from San Diego County disappeared and two days after a registered sex offender was booked on suspicion of rape and murder.

Chelsea King, 17, has been missing five days, her clothes have been found, and reports are coming in now that a body has been found in the search area. John Albert Gardner was arrested in connection with Chelsea King’s disappearance on Sunday, February 28th, 2010.

John Albert Gardner III faced an eleven year maximum sentence under a plea agreement arranged a decade ago; however lenient prosecutors urged only six of those and the Judge complied. Gardner plead guilty to assaulting a 13 year old girl. He served five years. A mere five years.

Prosecutor’s acknowledge in an eleven page memo that John Albert Gardner “never expressed one scintilla of remorse for his attack upon the victim.”

Severe shock and denial among King’s classmates is giving way to anger and hurt, Traci Barkerball, King’s teacher for three years at Poway High School, said Tuesday night.

“What bothers me most is the kids don’t feel safe anymore,” Barkerball said between hugs for grieving students. “Their sense of security has been taken away from them.”

Brent King, Chelsea’s father, thanked supporters on the lawn of St. Michael’s Church in Poway, northeast of San Diego. Some in the audience fought to control their sobs as he spoke.

“One of the nicknames that I’ve always called my daughter is my Angel. She’s my angel forever,” he said.

“I want to thank you. Chelsea wants to thank you,” he said.

When someone shouted, “We love you,” Brent King responded, “We love all of you.”

The body was found buried in a shallow grave on the south shore of Lake Hodges, said San Diego County Sheriff William Gore. The body has not been positively identified but Gore said there was a “strong likelihood” it was Chelsea’s.

John Albert Gardner III, 30, was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in San Diego.

San Diego police say Gardner is positively linked to an assault on a 22-year-old Colorado Springs, Colo., woman who managed to fend off her attacker on Dec. 27 in Rancho Bernardo Community Park on the northern edge of San Diego, where King’s 1994 BMW was found with her belongings inside.

San Diego police Capt. Jim Collins decline to describe the evidence pinning the December assault on Gardner but said a swab taken from the victim’s elbow did not match Gardner’s DNA.

Tuesday night’s ceremony was initially planned as a vigil for King’s safe return but it took on the air of a memorial service three hours after the sheriff announced the body was recovered. Friends spoke of her quirky sense of humor and irrepressibly upbeat spirit.

“She would just breathe sunshine even if you were in a bad mood,” said Madison Chapman, a friend. “She made you feel like a little kid, like there were no problems, like nothing could go wrong.”

A rep for the family said they were “delighted” to have Mark back home.

Nancy Kerrigan is no stranger to harrowing headlines. In 1994, a hit man hired by the husband of rival skater Tonya Harding kneecapped her with a collapsible baton at a figure-skating practice.

Harding became notorious in conjunction with the January 6, 1994 attack on her competitor Nancy Kerrigan. The widely publicized attack took place during a practice session for the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit. Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, and her bodyguard, Shawn Eckardt, hired Shane Stant to strike Kerrigan on the knee, though Stant actually struck Kerrigan’s thigh a few inches above the knee. Harding won that event, while Kerrigan’s injury forced her withdrawal. After Harding admitted to helping to cover up the attack, the USFSA and United States Olympic Committee initiated proceedings to remove her from the 1994 Olympic team, but Harding retained her place after threatening legal action. She finished eighth, while Kerrigan, who recovered from her injuries, finished second.

The wife of an Oympic shot put medalist gunned down in the backyard of his Oxnard home last summer will appear in court Tuesday in connection with the slaying.

Jane Laut, 52, was detained during a traffic stop Saturday morning on a warrant issued earlier in the week, Oxnard police said in a statement. She is being held on $3 million bail.

Lead prosecutor Bill Haney says he intends to file murder and firearms charges against Laut in Ventura Superior Court.

Her husband David Laut, also 52, was shot multiple times in the head on the night of August 28 in the backyard of their home.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Her lawyer Ron Bamieh says on Aug. 27, 2009, she wrestled a gun from her husband and shot him in “self defense” after he became drunk and said he was going to kill their 10-year-old son, their dogs, then her.

“She was left with no choice but to defend herself and her child with that gun,” Bamieh told the Ventura County Star. “It’s not a question of who the shooter was, it’s a question of the intent of the shooter.”

But Jane Laut’s current story isn’t quite the same as the story she told police a year ago. Back then she told investigators she heard shots fired after her husband when to the backyard to investigate suspicious sounds. Police initially said Dave Laut may have been killed by prowlers.

Police initially believed David Laut may have been killed by would-be intruders, but a few days later they determined the killing was not random.

Jane Laut’s attorney, Ron Bamieh, has called it a “self-defense case,” apparently contradicting police reports of her statements at the time of the killing.

David Laut had worked for 10 years as a track coach and athletic director at Oxnard’s Hueneme High School.

Born in Ohio and raised in Southern California, Laut won two NCAA titles at UCLA and a gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games.

Laut was favored to win gold at the 1984 Olympics after throwing 70 feet, 10 inches at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He won the bronze instead with a mark of 68 feet, 9 3/4 inches on his final attempt at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

In 1985, he was still ranked the No. 7 shot-putter in the world and the No. 1 American. But the following year he tore tendons in both knees during an agility test to become a fireman, and failed to make the 1988 Olympic team.
