The Emmy Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, honor the best in television programming.

It’s television biggest night where the best in TV are showcased. The ceremony will air on August 29th, and will be hosted by none other than Jimmy Fallon.

Judge Marsha Revel sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in county jail and 90 days in a substance abuse program for violating probation after learning that she missed seven court-ordered weekly alcohol counseling
sessions during the 27 week period between December 2009 and July 2.

“Are you serious?” she sobbed to her attorney as she furiously plucked Kleenex out of a tissue box and covered her face as she grappled with the prospect of jail.

Lohan had appealed to the judge directly for leniency, admitting that she was scared and told the court, “I did everything I was told to do,” she said. “I thought I was being compliant. I did the best that I could.

“I wasn’t asking for special treatment…I was just trying to balance my jobs. I don’t want you to think I don’t respect you or your terms.”

Lohan’s 90-day jail sentence caps a long history of legal issues reaching back at least to her 2007 DUI arrest and comes at a time when the 24-year-old actress is trying to piece her career back together. The jail time, which is to be followed by a 90-day in-house stay at a substance abuse clinic, will prevent Lohan from publicizing an upcoming movie and delay production on another one. What’s more, Lohan will be unable to continue promoting her new fashion line, 6126, which is expected to begin shipping to stores this month.

So just how much will Lohan’s professional life suffer now that her ability to jumpstart new projects and promote existing ones has been compromised? Will the actress—once a rising star with box-office hits like “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls”—survive her current woes and make a Hollywood comeback?

“The simple stroke is that she already destroyed her movie career,” said David Poland of MovieCityNews.com. “Is she insurable on a film right now? Probably not. What was a bad reputation has turned into a legally defined problem.”

To wit, Lohan has already lost at least one job because of her public notoriety, having been fired from “The Other Side” in April. Writer/director David Michaels explained it this way at the time: “The producers of the movie have reported that financiers have been resistant to finance the movie with Lindsay in the lead role,” adding that Lohan was simply “not bankable.”

Still, the director of “Inferno,” a biopic in which Lohan is set to star as 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace, has came out in support of the embattled actress. “I am 100 percent behind Lindsay and can say the same for everyone involved in the production of ‘Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story,’ ” Matthew Wilder told MTV News in a statement after her jail sentence was announced on Tuesday. “Indeed, we are proud to have this remarkable artist work on our film.”

Other producers shared the sentiment. The Associated Press reported that Lohan is in negotiations for a part in the upcoming Willie Nelson movie “The Dry Gulch Kid,” and that production would be postponed if she wanted the role. “We’re behind her,” producer Kerry Wallum said. “We’ll wait until all of this blows over.”

How long will that take? And will Lohan be able to step back into the limelight? That depends on how she handles herself, both in private and in public, in the weeks and months ahead, according to one Hollywood PR vet.

“She can take this and she can learn from it and it becomes a cathartic event in her life,” said Howard Bragman, founder of publicity firm Fifteen Minutes. “The one thing we haven’t heard from Lindsay is, ‘I’m sorry, I have a problem, I’m going to resolve it.’ She doesn’t have PR problems, she has life problems. You can’t fix your problems until you admit you have them. I think she needs a lot of therapy. She needs to let her career be second and her life be first.”

Before she can get her life back, though, Lohan is headed to prison, and Bragman maintained that if she deals with it appropriately, she has a shot at resurrecting her career.

The man who would be known the world over as Ringo Starr, the man who kept the beat for the Beatles, turns 70 on Wednesday.

With a lot of help from his friends, Ringo Starr will blow out no fewer than 70 candles on his birthday cake Wednesday night.

Of the four Beatles, Ringo was the oldest (he was a few months older than Lennon) and has had one of the most fascinating solo careers since the legendary band disbanded 40 years ago.

Wednesday night, Ringo will receive a well-deserved birthday sing-along at Radio City Music Hall during a sold-out concert in which he’ll perform songs he sang with the Beatles more than four decades ago.

Of course, he’ll perform his most famous solo works as well. But the Fab Four pieces always highlight the show, from his signature vocal on “With a Little Help From My Friends” to the cartoonish “Yellow Submarine,” to the rockabilly anthem “Boys,” to the Buck Owens song that best describes Ringo’s beloved demeanor: “Act Naturally.”

Starr always had one of the most dynamic personalities of any of the Beatles, helping to craft some of the group’s most off-beat tunes (including “Octopus’s Garden” and “Don’t Pass Me By”) and providing the most electrifying on-screen presence (his is the one performance in “A Hard Day’s Night” that stands out, and he had a relatively fruitful acting career once the Beatles broke up). His work with the Beatles secured his place in history, but since then he has scored with a number of successful solo albums and drumming projects. His real impact, though, has been in the film industry, which saw him direct a documentary about friend Marc Bolan’s band T. Rex, star in films like Ken Russell’s “Lisztomania” and the McCartney-penned “Give My Regards to Broad Street” and put in regular time as the narrator of the kids’ show “Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.

Today, Starr is perhaps best known as the frontman and mastermind behind the All-Starr Band, a rotating cast of rock and roll greats who record and tour with Starr. Past members include Dr. John, E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, the Band drummer Levon Helm, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, the Who bassist John Entwistle, Peter Frampton, Todd Rundgren, Edgar Winter and Men at Work frontman Colin Hay. Let’s all wish a hearty “Happy birthday!” to Ringo Starr, who was born Richard Starkey exactly 70 years ago today. This milestone will no doubt make many people other than the legendary drummer feel old. Easy solution: Throw on a Beatles album, or better yet, find A Hard Day’s Night on DVD. The world has yet to discover a superior source of renewable youthful energy than the twenty-something Starr’s steady drumbeats and silly faces.

British pop singer George Michael was arrested over the weekend after crashing his car into a London store, police confirmed Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene at around 3.35 a.m. local time (0235 GMT) on Sunday.

“The man aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive,” a spokesman said.

Police do not name individuals when making preliminary statements, but the spokesman was speaking in response to questions about Michael, who is 47. He was taken to a north London police station and bailed to return in mid-August pending further inquiries.

The 47-year-old singer was reportedly traveling back from a gay pride march in central London when his Range Rover crashed into a North London branch of British photo developing store Snappy Snaps, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Hampstead store’s manager, Jun Mustafa, said: “You’re looking at a new shop front definitely –it was quite badly damaged.”

The star, who became famous as part of the band Wham! before launching a successful solo career, was banned from driving for two years in 2007 and sentenced to 100 hours of community service after admitting driving when unfit due to drugs.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Berkshire, southeast England in August 2009 but was later released without charge.

The star’s most famous brush with the law came in 1998 when he was arrested for “engaging in a lewd act” with an undercover police officer in a toilet in Los Angeles.

Michael issued a statement Tuesday as well. “I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them,” he said.

Jennifer Rovero, former playboy model and the best friend of Paris Hilton gets arrested for using of drugs at the FIFA World Cup. Earlier, lots of sources reported that, Jennifer Rovero and Paris Hilton both were arrested for using marijuana, while they were watching the match between Brazil and Netherlands.

But, it was only Jennifer Rovero, who was charged in this case by the South Africa police. Paris Hilton gets released and cops apologized for accusing her. Jennifer Rovero saved Paris Hilton by taking first step about this case by saying ‘marijuana was hers’.

Both, TV personality Hilton and freelance photographer Rovero appeared in a special court organized by South African courts to deal with crimes committed during the World Cup, just hours after being arrested.

Fingerprints were taken of both suspects at the time but later it was realized that Hilton was innocent and was released.

Jennifer Rovero was fined for $152 or to spend 30 days in the jail. But, Jennifer Rovero paid the fine and escaped from the jail life.

“The case was considered in court and the charges against Ms Hilton were dropped. Her friend Jennifer Rovero pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and was sentenced.” said Brigadier Miranda Mills a spokeswoman for the South African police.

Jennifer Rovero was chosen as Playboy Playmate of the month of July 1999 and appeared in Playboy videos. She became models’ representative in October 1999 CNN reported edition. Jennifer currently works a photographer for Paris Hilton.

The event that quickly attracted the attention of the press took place shortly after the ending of the Netherlands vs Brazil, when Paris and her friend Rovero, a former Playboy model allegedly decided to smoke some cannabis .

They were quickly spotted by some police officers who questioned them both, suspecting them for the possession of illegal substances.

Hilton’s representative also told the press that the whole event was just a huge misunderstanding and that the person who was spotted smoking was somebody else from their group. After Jennifer Rovero took the blame, she had to pay a fine for possession and was soon released by the South African Police.

Hilton had arrived in South Africa on Thursday with a private jet and was watching the Brazil Vs Holland World Cup Quarter Final match when the incident occurred.

This is not the first time the TV personality and heir of Hilton hotels wad a running with the law. The 29-year-old had served prison time in 2007 for violating probation in an alcohol-related driving case, several times.

Andrew Garfield, a little-known British actor, is the surprise choice to play Spider-Man in the latest instalment of the Hollywood franchise.

The 26-year-old, raised in the UK but born in California, will begin work on the new movie in December.

The new film, in 3-D, will be released in 2012. It is a “reboot” of the $2.5 billion franchise, with a focus on the superhero’s early years.

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” said Marc Webb, the film’s director, as he announced the news at a Sony press event in Cancun, Mexico.

“He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

His previous credits include last year’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus alongside the late Heath Ledger.

Former Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi departed the franchise after making three films.

Garfield was born in Los Angeles to a British mother and American father, and the family moved to Surrey when he was three. His father, Richard, is head coach of the Guildford City Swimming Club.

It was during his time at the City of London Freemen’s School in Ashstead that Garfield discovered a passion for acting. He was also an accomplished gymnast, which should come in handy for Spider-Man stunts.

He won a place at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and graduated in 2004.

For the first three years of his career he worked in theatre, appearing at the National and winning a most promising newcomer award from the London Theatre Critics’ Circle.

Moving into television, he won the 2007 best actor Bafta for Boy A, in which he played a young man released from prison after committing a murder when he was a child. He also won acclaim for his role in Channel 4 police drama Red Riding, and appeared in two episodes of Doctor Who.

His first big screen role was in Lions For Lambs, directed by Robert Redford and starring Meryl Streep. Redford was impressed with his audition tape and cast him without realising that he was British.

“My Dad is from America, and he has his accent still so I have grown up with that in my ear so, like anything, it just becomes second nature. So I do feel like that is an advantage and a really lucky one,” Garfield said.

Spider-Man producer Avi Arad added: “We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

The movie has yet to be named.

Mel Gibson reportedly was caught on tape using a string of racist and derogatory remarks in a profanity-laced argument with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

Internet reports state that the audiotapes were made by Grigorieva. She and the actor are currently in the midst of a custody battle over their 7-month-old daughter, Lucia.

Celebrity news website Radaronline.com Thursday published excerpts of an audiotape of Gibson telling Oksana Grigorieva, whom he is battling in court, that the way she is dressed made her look like a “pig in heat.”

“If you get get raped by a pack of n—ers, it will be your fault,” Radaronline reported Gibson as shouting at Grigorieva during an argument she taped, apparently using an expression that is deeply insulting to African Americans.

According to TMZ.com, the tapes have been submitted to the judge in the couple’s custody battle and are under seal. The website also reports that Grigorieva kept a number of “incendiary emails” that Gibson sent to her.

Grigorieva’s attorneys declined to discuss the reports to the Press on Thursday, while Gibson’s rep said, “I have no comment on, and furthermore no knowledge of, the credibility or authenticity of any alleged audio tapes.”

In 2006, Gibson unleashed a now-infamous anti-Semitic tirade to police following a drunk driving arrest. He later apologized for his “despicable” comments and “out of control” behavior.

Gibson, 54, and the Russian-born singer were reported in April to have split up, five months after the birth of their daughter Lucia.

The Oscar-winning actor and director of “Braveheart” and “The Passion of the Christ” had gone public with their romance shortly after he filed for divorce in April 2009 from his wife Robyn after nearly 30 years of marriage.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse featuring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart amassed more than 30 million US dollars from midnight screenings on Wednesday.

According to distributor Summit Entertainment, the record goes beyond its earlier feat of 26.3 million US dollars set by its predecessor, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the report said.

The new midnight record is even more impressive considering Eclipse managed it in the middle of the week. And more is expected with the Fourth of July weekend ahead, when Eclipse is positioned for a colossal first five days.

But when a movie franchise tops the billion-dollar mark, there is always a good reason and it may not be the obvious one. The Twilight Saga’s popularity is often seen as a victory of beauty over content–it’s successful because the actors are soooo hot!–but that has never been enough. Lots of other movies with gorgeous young actors never make it big.

The teasing sexuality, in which abstinence becomes sexy, is certainly part of it, but still not enough. There is an incredibly strong sense of landscape, heightened by the lowering skies of the Pacific north-west, where it is set. This place doesn’t look like America but some cold, wet kingdom of mountains and fir trees, where strange creatures fly through the air. It’s almost Middle Earth for teenage girls–not with Hobbits but vampires with eyes like topaz and the prettiest Native Americans you’ve ever seen.

Tolkien was almost completely sexless but The Twilight Saga is in a permanent state of arousal. Stephenie Meyer, the writer of the phenomenally successful novels, has tapped into a desire for female-driven fantasy which reflects the real passion of young lives–and that is where this series strikes gold.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is expected to take more than $150 million over the coming weekend.

A court clerk in Austin, Texas, confirmed that the divorce between the Oscar-winning actress, Sandra Bullock and celebrity biker Jessie James was finalized Monday. Bullock filed to end the marriage in April after reports surfaced that James had been unfaithful.

Citing “discord or conflict of personalities” as the reason behind the split, the official divorce allows the Oscar-winning actress to complete her adoption of son Louis as a single parent.

An attorney for Bullock did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press on Tuesday, but her publicist, Cheryl Maisel, confirmed the couple’s split was complete.

James’ publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The actress and “Monster Garage” star met in 2003 and married in 2005. It seemed like an odd pairing–the movie star often called “America’s Sweetheart” marrying the tattooed biker who had been wed twice before.

It was the first marriage for Bullock, who became a devoted stepmom to James’ children: Sunny, 6; Jesse Jr., 12; and Chandler, 15.

The pair adopted the baby boy from New Orleans shortly before they split amid the avalanche of affair claims, which included tattoo model Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee revealing she’d had an 11-month affair with Jesse.

Jesse–who went to rehab following the separation to be treated for sex addiction–is also believed to have slept with at least five other women during his relationship with Sandra.

The couple stayed out of the public eye as they continued their individual successes. She racked up film and production credits, while he expanded his reality-TV presence, starring in his own series, “Jesse James is a Dead Man,” and appearing on “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

Their problems surfaced in March, just days after Bullock won the best-actress Oscar for her role in “The Blind Side.” She had been on a career high–her romantic comedy, “The Proposal,” was a box-office smash, then she swept Hollywood’s awards season for her “Blind Side” performance.

The couple was a fixture at the glittery awards shows this year. She called James “sexy” as she accepted her Screen Actor’s Guild award. Backstage, he held her purse as she spoke to reporters.

At the Golden Globes, Bullock told James from the stage, her voice cracking with emotion: “There’s no surprise that my work got better when I met you. Because I never knew what it felt like for someone to have my back.”

She did not thank her husband at the Academy Awards, instead dedicating her acceptance speech to mothers and parents everywhere. Still, the couple walked hand-in-hand down Oscar’s red carpet, celebrated together at the parties afterward and were photographed outside a Long Beach burger joint the next day.

Ten days later, Internet rumors surfaced that James had been unfaithful while Bullock was away making her Oscar-winning film. He apologized to his wife and three children from previous relationships through a statement released by his publicist.

Melrose Place’ actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer has been charged with vehicular homicide following a wine-fueled crash Sunday night in Montgomery, New Jersey, that left one woman dead and a man in critical condition

Locane-Bovenizer has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by automobile. At her arraignment on Monday afternoon, Superior Court Judge Robert Reed set her bail at $50,000.

And, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco Jr., the fatal accident wasn’t her first of the night.

In Princeton, just miles away from the fatal crash in Montgomery, the 38-year-old actress rear-ended a different vehicle, Somerset County Acting Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco, Jr. said in a statement. Locane-Bovenizer fled the scene when the driver of that car attempted to call for help, so he followed her, telling police that the actress was “swerving and knocking down several mailboxes.”

Police say that Locane-Bovenizer, who changed her name after getting married in 2008, was driving drunk Sunday night when she smashed her SUV into the passenger side of a sedan as it was turning into a driveway in Montgomery Township, N.J., about 10 miles north of Princeton. The driver, Fred Seeman, was hospitalized in critical condition; his wife Helene died at the scene.

DeMarco said responding officers smelled alcohol and reported that the “Melrose Place” actress’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and her speech was slurred. She was arrested and transferred to University Medical Center in Princeton, where her blood was tested, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

A witness told police that just prior to the incident Locane-Bovenizer was involved in a hit-and-run in Princeton. That witness told police that the “Cry Baby” actress rear-ended a car at a Princeton intersection several miles from the fatal crash site. The witness said that when they tried to call police, Locane-Bovenizer got back in her SUV and drove away, the Star-Ledger reported.

The other driver followed her telling police that she was “swerving and knocking down several mailboxes” just before the fatal crash.

Locane-Bovenizer allegedly admitted to police later Sunday evening that she had downed several glasses of wine prior to driving, according to the paper.

Locane-Bovenizer, who has two young children with her husband Mark, a wine specialist, now faces charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto. She could get at least 10 years in prison if convicted.
