Van Der Sloot Confesses murder of Stephany Flores
Peruvian authorities announced late Monday evening that Joran van der Sloot had confessed to the murder of Stephany Flores.
The dutch man, 22, has admitting beating Stephany Flores to death in a hotel room in Lima, Peru, on May 30 just hours after meeting him for the first time.
According to leaked police reports, van der Sloot lost his temper when Miss Flores, 21, who he had met during a poker game, used his computer to discover more about him after returning with him to his hotel room.
“I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life. She had no right. I went to her and I hit her. She was scared. We argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and I hit her,” Mr van der Sloot told police.
The battered body of Peruvian Miss Flores was found with her neck broken on the floor of his hotel room two days later. Police believe she was killed by blows with a blunt object, probably a tennis racket found by her body. Video footage showing van der Sloot entering his hotel room with Miss Flores has been released by police.
It is expected that he will be formally charged with the crime sometime today and will likely be held in one of Peru’s three maximum security prisons. These three prisons are, the Miguel Castro Castro, Piedras Gordas and the Lurigancho. Some felt van der Sloot would be held at the Miguel Castro Castro prison but a former Chief of Police ventured that he would not, would be sent to the Piedras Gordas because there was insufficient facilities to protect him at the former prison which was the subject of a large lawsuit in 2006. Charges were filed against it for violation of prisoners rights.
Several items have been released which were previously in error or withheld. Police now report that the body of Flores was not fully clothed but rather had on a black tee shirt and red panties.
They also report that surveillance cameras showed that van der Sloot spoke to a hotel employee as he left. When the employee was questioned, he said that van der Sloot has told him he would be coming back and asked him not “to bother his girl”.
A Peruvian police investigator, Carlos Neyra reports that the Dutch Consulate has offered to furnish Joran an attorney, however, other reports have stated that he does not want a Dutch attorney. He has asked for his mother and nothing has been reported as whether or not she will be coming to see him. He has indicated that he would prefer his New York attorney who represented him during the Natalee Holloway case.
